Just #tweetit

Here’re the lyrics for you to follow along:

I told you, don’t write no more letters to me
Don’t wanna read no more, You know I’m A.D.D.
I start to watch Glee, it’s really fast on 4G
So tweet it, just tweet it
You better type, you better do it real fast
Don’t go above the 140 letter max
Remember some devices do not support Flash
So tweet it, while you’re clearin your cache!
CHORUS
Just tweet it, tweet it, tweet it, tweet it
Justin Bieber gets defeated!
We’re all micro-bloggers, with a device
In YouTube comments, we win the fights
Just tweet it, tweet it
Just tweet it, tweet it
Just tweet it, tweet it
Just tweet it, tweet it
You wanna go beyond emoticon frowns
Don’t wanna use a gun, your twitter gets a round
You’re Siskel and you’re Ebert, please don’t put your thumbs down
So Tweet it, just tweet it
You got an iPhone and you gotta be glad
Until you saw your Dad whip out his new iPad
You want an iPatch, gonna be the new fad
So Tweet it, cuz you gotta beat Dad!
CHORUS
[Guitar Solo]
CHORUS
Tweet it, tweet it, tweet it, tweet it
Kids with A.D.D. can read it
Show ‘em, they’re hungry, for your insight
It doesn’t matter, if you can’t write
Tweet it, tweet it, tweet it, tweet it
Get this hashtag retweeted!
Trends that keep rockin’, with you all night
ROTFL from Pantless Knights!
x2

I meant to post this Friday, so let’s change my Viral Video Fridays series just for once.

It’s amazing how brands love to use someone else’s big splash and ride it for their own … after the amazing success of the Old Spice campaign, many brands chose to follow the same spot archetype — which should have been somehow trademarked –. Sesame Street launched their Smell Like A Monster. With over 5 million views, this cute spot quickly went viral.

Love the fact that it ends with I’m on a horse, cow… mainly because I found this awesome Axe billboard today that makes fun of the same line.

There must be a cow joke here, but this blog is PG13.

The agency sold the client the ‘crazy idea’ that if you don’t like Panda products, eat Panda products or refuse a Panda sandwich, the Panda will kick your ass. The campaign is called “Never Say No to Panda“.

Strangely the official hits on the Youtube channel don’t even come close to the 4 million hits the recently made compilation got.

Original video was removed today, but here’s another copy.

Shot just south of Paris, France in Linas at l’Autodrome de Linas –Montlhéry, this 1.58 mile oval track, built in 1924, features banks as steep as 51 degrees, which is more than double the standard incline of most NASCAR ovals.

The stunts are just amazing, a must see for any racing fan, and pretty much all men.

The DC x Ken Block Gymkhana video franchise now consists of seven videos including Gymkhana Practice, Bonus Edit, TWO, 2.1; the educational anniversary video, Hot For Words, and now the two part Gymkhana THREE Project. A viral internet sensation, these videos have had more than 70 million views online and received numerous awards. Most recently the Gymkhana TWO video was named one of Ad Age’s “Top 10 Viral Ads of All Time”, a huge honor for DC and Ken; won a 2010 People’s Telly Silver Award, presented by YouTube; earned a Bronze Pencil at the One Show Entertainment Awards in the “Online Branded Entertainment” category, and was #4 on Ad Age’s list of top viral videos of 2009.
A recent YouTube video ad for ink correction fluid brand Tipp-Ex allows offers a custom, interactive experience to viewers based on the product’s key functionality – allowing you to correct your original intention, or to change your mind. The video’s co-protagonist – a hunter/camper – is about to shoot a bear at his campsite, when he instead decides to use Tipp-Ex (taking it from the ad unit next to video) to correct the word ’shoots’ in the video title bar, and instead allow you to instruct what the hunter should do to the bear.

It’s basically Subservient Chicken all over again — well, a lot more basic, but same idea — but with a YouTube spin. It has more than 50 different endings: dances with, sings with, talks to, hugs, draws, fights, doesn’t shoot, is shot by, loves, kisses, fucks, pisses with, sleeps with, eats, watches TV with, swims with, plays with, shakes hand with, buys, takes a photo of, fishes with, drinks with, rides, plays football with, spanks, farts, is cooked by, breakdances with, cuts, does nothing with, high fives, smokes with, moonwalks with, washes, jumps with, tickles, shows his ass to, seduces.

Interactive brand experience offering viewers a humerous take on the product’s key functionality – allowing to correct one’s original intention, or infact to change tact entirely.

You can watch the intro video here, to go directly to the YouTube: TippExperience

The week’s viral video friday goes to Gillette. Released this Monday, has quickly ramped up to 3.3 million views and 100,000 facebook shares. As part of an ad campaign for Gillette, in what was designed to look like an unscripted moment, Roger Federer serves a tennis ball across a room and it knocks a bottle off the top of a film crew member’s head. Then Federer repeats the trick.

Most comments in the Youtube channel argue whether it’s true or fake … no one said anything about Gillette, nor the video really ties into the brand on any way …

Best comment was: “I was pretty sure it was a fake but I analysed it on FC Pro. If you go frame by frame you can clearly see the faint yellow trail of the ball which in the end hits the bottle on the guys head. First I thought he hit the ball wide, left of the guy but you also can see that there are people standing, which made me wanna check it. So I’m very positive that it’s the real thing.”

Really nicely done. btw, Federer is a beast and I really hope he wins the US open again.

Previously, the only other Geico commercial to pass the million mark was the 2006 Caveman at the airport, which only has 1.2mm views.

With all the great content Geico has, it goes to show you how important is a good understanding of the digital space.

And for your pleasure, here’s the latest Geico spot released at the same time as Piggy … Here’s Geico’s Octopus.

So Geico switched their ads now to weird cheese looking animal commercials… a Piggy, an Octopus, and there’s another Bird one not even worth showing. It’s really weird to watch these spots after the great legacy they left behind with the Gecko, Caveman, or even that short-lived failure money stack campaign …

The Old Spice simple and clever social media campaign has been running for the past 48 hours, allowing fans, influencers, and random people get their own personalized Old Spice video response by Tweeting, through Facebook, or Youtube commects … amazing! Full review by Mashable is pretty good.

Inevitably and as expected, the videos got views, but following rapidly increased across all channels.

According to Visible Measures, “Old Spice Responses” — a.k.a the string of custom-made vids — is one of the fastest-growing online video campaigns of all time. The company compares the endeavor to some of the most popular viral videos to date below, and how they’ve grown over the course of 24 hours (to be fair, “Old Spice Responses” had a time limit attached, so there was more urgency to participate with this particular string of videos than there was to get in on, say, the Susan Boyle craze).

Now let’s compare the numbers to Friday’s post.

The Return of The Man Your Man Could Smell Like kept getting hits and grew from 3MM views to 6.4MM views, and from 21k likes to 33k likes. This video was autoplayed in the Youtube.com/OldSprice channel — destination where people were going to explore all the new videos being posts, over 180 videos in two days.

What’s even more impressive, is that Old Spice has by far the most popular channel, and 8 out of the top 15 videos!

YouTube’s top Channels this week. OldSpice shows 13,500,000 views, almost tripling the 2nd best.

Top videos for today (July 16, 2010, just updated the post to add this): Old Spice with the number 1, 2, 4, and a total of 8 out of the top 15 … now that’s impressive.

Now let’s look at Facebook:

So W+K has been having fun with Old Spice lately … It’s actually quite impressive to see how every video they produce for Old Spice gets anywhere from 1 to 12 million views …

The latest one, called Old Spice | Questions got 3 million views in less than 1 week.

Interesting to see too how favorable reviews are … 21k positive vs 240 negative …

Other things to notice are the increasing number of call to actions to follow them on Facebook …

The video has links to Facebook in the description as well as an annotation. I actually like the watermark annotation in the video, very well executed, except the message, which should prompt to be best friends but simply land on the Facebook wall … not a good transition. FYI, Youtube does not allow annotations with external links unless it’s an ad buy, so Old Spice must see value on it to be paying per click.

The Old Spice YouTube Channel also has Facebook and Twitter links in the header … These links actually don’t link directly, but use a Bit.ly url to track click-troughs … Wonder why it’s inconsistent … they should have tracked the video annotation links the same way.

Anyways, even with the amazing success of the video in term of views, people have not been clicking much to Facebook from it … Bit.ly shows the following number of the past week, on which the video has had 3 million views

1000 clicks from Youtube … not impressive.

Also notice they have only 500k Facebook fans … small number had they tried to push traffic from the 50 million youtube views… but I don’t know for how long they’ve been trying. Would be great to have a tool to see historic growth of Facebook following for any public page / brand.

Today’s award goes to iPhone4 vs HTC Evo. I’m sure most of you have seen it, but if you haven’t, the video is a parody mocking Apple-heads / fans that blindly follow the brand for status … It shows how Apple builds following through designing great experiences and even if other brands have better technology, they cannot match the feeling one gets when holding an iPhone.

This video came out the same day the iPhone4 was released, immediately rocked the charts, and keep going strong.

The creator of the video worked at Best Buy, who immediately suspended him — creating some negative PR which shows you that even though Twelp won the Grand Prix at Cannes this year, Best Buy is still learning how to best leverage social media.

The video in its two weeks have short of 4 million YouTube views

and 100,000 Facebook Shares

With talent like this, Best Buy should have done the total opposite and empowered the creator to build a follow up, embrace creativity to produce positive traction …
