"Take Me To Your Leader" focuses on trend watching in consumer behaviors, marketing, technology, and social media, but is often led astray by its eccentric authors and their love of music, traveling, random thoughts, and pirates.

I put together an aggregate of content around the same topic for a client (I add you to that list!) over the last couple weeks.

Here is an interesting article in that list,

Hi "The Imp" - #1 - Thanks for reading our blog - I always appreciate comments and feedback.

I'm not discredting the fact that Social networking sites lean heavily toward Gen Y AND Gen X. I'm just giving Obama's campaign credit for using this form of marketing (of which I'm so fond of) so effectively.

Some recent statistics here:
http://business.rapleaf.com/company_press_2008_07_29.html

(I can't resist a good joke please forgive this addition written with a grin on my face.)

I'm planning on doing a follow up post on some of the marketing tactics that McCain's camp has been more successful with that reflect his voter base. I'm not incredibly familiar with senior citizen food stamps, ticker tape marketing, soccer mom bake sales, or the magic of the gramophone, but I'll do my best.

I think that the analysis between the two fails to address an important key factor: social networking is by and large a Gen-Y phenomenon. It's rare you find anyone but the 30-somethings or younger using apps like Facebook (and MySpace is worse!). Keeping that dynamic in mind, it's not surprising that Obama apps and the like would have more followers simply by the fact that his target demographic is younger Americans. The largest group of McCain supporters are less likely to be using Facebook, or the iPhone, etc.

Not saying that that contributes to ALL of the variation between the two, but I think it's important to make some concession to the generation gap.
