It's rare you find anyone but the 30-somethings or younger using apps like Facebook (and MySpace is worse!). Keeping that dynamic in mind, it's not surprising that Obama apps and the like would have more followers simply by the fact that his target demographic is younger Americans. The largest group of McCain supporters are less likely to be using Facebook, or the iPhone, etc. Not saying that that contributes to ALL of the variation between the two, but I think it's important to make some concession to the generation gap.
